Fur seals

In the exhibit evoking the rocky shores of South Africa, you can enjoy an unusual view of Cape fur seals beneath the water’s surface and marvel at their skills during the popular training demonstrations.
The Cape fur seal exhibit features large basalt blocks, a rocky beach, and a spacious pool. Its design deliberately complements the neighbouring exhibit of Humboldt’s penguins, which inhabit a similar environment in the wild—albeit on a different continent.
The seals enjoy a generously sized pool, complete with a slide leading down from the rocks and a stone walkway that arches overhead. This structure expands their land area and provides keepers with access to the pool during training sessions.
Visitors can observe the animals either from a large viewing terrace with 250 seats, or watch their graceful swimming through broad glass panels that surround the pool and slope down into an artificial underwater cave.
