The Prague Zoo has been breeding Lechwe since 2012. This little male is the 22nd Lechwe calf born in Prague. Visitors can see the Lechwe in the Large Enclosure. Males have long lyra-shaped horns, females do not have horns. Males use the horns mostly for fighting with another males, while when they protect themselves against a predator in the wild, they usually use their sharp hooves. Their natural habitat are marshy areas and near rivers in Central and Southern Africa. They are very good swimmers and thanks to their relatively long legs they can move quite fast and gracefully even on a mud-covered surface.
