Christmas in Prague Zoo – Between Advent and New Year

The festive programme at Prague Zoo will be launched on Saturday, 30th November, with the lighting of the Christmas tree and will finish on New Year, when the commented animal feeding takes place. This year, visitors have a new option to take a Bethlehem light from the Zoo.

 “As in previous years, we’ll welcome St. Nicholas with his group and celebrate Christmas Day. Visitors pay just CZK 1 on selected days,” said the Zoo’s spokesman, Michal Šťastný.

Lampion parade
The Christmas programme will be launched by the lighting Christmas tree on Sunday, 1st December. At 4 p.m., a lamp lit parade will set of for a walk around the upper part of the Zoo, making its way to the northern entrance, where Zoo director 16:00 Miroslav Bobek will launch Advent together with singers Petr Janda and Marta Jandova. Festive ambience will be enhanced by Coro Piccolo Children ensemble. Every visitor with a lampion can visit the Zoo just for CZK 1, after 3.30 p.m., the one crown entrance is for everyone.

Try Christmas luck
For the first time, Prague Zoo offers an option to buy Christmas luck, a small box with surprise. Some will find a small souvenirs from the Zoo, others a Zoo ticket or even Christmas Zoo guided tour. Collected money will be used for animals that don’t have any adoptive parents.

Bethlehem light in Zoo Prague
In the course of following days, the Zoo will be visited with St Nicholas and devils and the Bethlehem light will be brought to the Children’s part of the Zoo the weekend before the Christmas day. From 21st December, everyone can take it home and celebrate Christmas under its protection. On 22nd December, the festive ambience will be enhanced by the male gorilla Nuru’s birthday celebration.
