Wandering bus and wildlife protection in Central Africa

The Wandering Bus is one of Prague Zoo’s key in situ projects. As part of this initiative, we focus primarily on the conservation of gorillas and other endangered species in Central Africa through the education of the younger generation. Since 2013, we have been introducing children in Cameroon to the concept of sustainable rainforest use and offering them the opportunity to see gorillas as fascinating living creatures, rather than merely meat on a plate. In addition, we support various organisations working to protect gorillas and nature not only in Cameroon, but also in other Central African countries.
| Focal species: western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla), eastern lowland gorilla (Gorilla beringei graueri), pangolins (Manidae), African forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis) Where we help: Cameroon (mainly Dja Biosphere Reserve), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kahuzi-Biega National Park) Habitat: tropical rainforest and coasts of Central Africa |

The Wandering Bus project
The Wandering Bus is a project focused on the environmental education of the young generation of Cameroonians and on raising awareness about the protection of gorillas and the tropical rainforest of Central Africa in general.
Other activities of Prague Zoo in Central Africa
Our other activities in Central Africa include, in particular, supporting education and awareness through our own printed materials, providing material support to forest rangers, and assisting regional organisations focused on the conservation of primates and other wildlife, as well as on sustainable development and the search for alternative livelihoods to bushmeat hunting.
Other species that we help protect in Central Africa
Through education and raising awareness among local communities, as well as providing material support to forest rangers, we contribute not only to the protection of gorillas but also to the conservation of other endangered animal species that inhabit the African rainforest.
