Nature Around Us

Wonderful wildlife is closer than you think! Just beyond the farm in the Children’s Zoo, two walk-through aviaries give you the chance to encounter a fascinating variety of birds native to Czech countryside.

Here you can discover the world of small birds—species that live all around us but are often overlooked, as well as those that are rare and endangered. Both deserve just as much attention and protection as their more exotic relatives.

The aviaries are walk-through and have an irregular polygonal shape. The supporting structure consists of wooden posts set in concrete footings, stabilised with steel tension cables. The outer shell is made of corrosion-resistant, spot-welded steel mesh.

Each aviary includes two sections. The larger one is connected to a wooden, roofed walkway for visitors, separated from the birds’ space only by a railing. The second section is a smaller aviary that visitors can view from the outside.

The eastern aviary recreates a dry meadow habitat and is home to bird species that prefer warmer conditions. Its footprint covers around 115 m².

The western aviary introduces visitors to a deciduous forest environment. Among the branches of broad-leaved trees, you’ll spot birds that are usually shy—here, you can see them up close. This aviary has an area of approximately 200 m².

Rules for visiting the aviaries:

  • Please do not disturb the birds with noise or sudden movements.
  • Do not cross the railings.
  • Do not leave any litter—it could pose a serious threat to the animals.
  • Dogs are not allowed inside the aviaries.
