Live broadcasting from the Gorilla House ends after eight years

Our decision to end live broadcasting is based on several considerations:

• Some gorilla fans, although they represent only a minority of the public, have gotten the impression that because they observe gorillas daily through cameras they have become experts on their breeding and can influence the attitude and behaviour of the staff of Prague Zoo. Without having any expertise nor insight, they criticize the keepers´ work, harass them and, in some situations, have resorted to threats. Even after our notices and appeals, the situation has not improved, quite the contrary.
• The core of the fans started to arouse a hostile sentiment towards Prague Zoo and attempts to damage its good reputation also in the Zoo's relationship with international institutions. Also materials from the live broadcasting were used out of context to harm the work of Prague Zoo.
• The live broadcasting was an exceptional service, which was meant to provide observers with a daily look into the Gorilla House, and was offered over and above the normal standard, not as a matter of course.

From now, we will offer a fresh selection of the most interesting events from the day-to-day life of Prague Gorillas, interesting information about the status of gorillas in the wild and their protection as well as extraordinary events from zoos around the Word.
