Water World and Monkey Islands

This realm of wetlands is found in the lower reaches of the zoo and is home to a diverse community of birds and mammals. For some of them, water is a natural habitat. For others, it is an insurmountable obstacle.
The area is designed as a network of water bodies and grassy or wooded islands, connected not only by traditional paths but also by several wooden walkways. It is inhabited both by animals that are at home in and around water, such as the water-loving tapirs, marsh antelopes, flamingos, pelicans, and other water birds, and by various primates that have settled on the islands beyond the moats, which act as a natural barrier for them.
The shoreline vegetation also provides refuge for small free-living creatures such as the marsh frog, the common moorhen, and the night heron.
The indoor shelters are partly glazed, allowing visitors to observe the animals even during the winter months, when they remain inside.
