Northern Forests

The Northern Forest exhibit complex is located in a relatively wooded part of the zoo, characterised by a cooler microclimate. This makes it an ideal home for cold-loving species that inhabit northern forests.
Among the animals you can observe here are Siberian tigers, Eurasian wolves, elk, Finnish forest reindeer, as well as owls whose aviaries blend seamlessly into the tree canopies. The hoofed mammals and wolves can be seen in their spacious enclosures from numerous wooden viewing platforms and walkways. The tigers, which you can view through large glass panels, are housed in an enclosure designed to resemble a patch of clear deciduous forest from the Russian Far East, complete with relatively rich undergrowth that gives them a sufficient sense of privacy.
You will also no doubt be intrigued by the monumental statue of Radegast—one of two originals created by Czech-American sculptor Albin Polasek. The more famous version once stood atop Mount Radhošť in the Beskydy Mountains, but today a replica stands in its place.
