Conference venue and accommodation

The 2011 WAZA Annual Conference and accommodation venue is the Hotel InterContinental, situated in the centre of Prague. The hotel offers special rates to the delegates of the conference on accommodation and conference services.

The Hotel InterContinental´s construction dates from 1974 and represents the architectural style created by Le Corbusier called Brutalism, which is notable for working with an untreated concrete surface. Recently the hotel has been renovated and the interiors have been redesigned. Today it is belongs to the highly respected international InterContinental Hotels Group.

The hotel endeavours to harmonize the operation of a luxurious accommodation facility and modern conference centre with achievement of sustainable, environmental requirements, for which it has been awarded several prizes. It was the first hotel in the Czech Republic to officially participate in Earth Hour (since 2008); and received a Green Hotel Rating of 4 trees in 2008 from www.environmentallyfriendlyhotels.com and the Green Hotelier 2010 Award from the Association of Hotels and Restaurants Czech Republic.

The hotel is famous for beautiful views including a unique panorama of Prague roofs and towers from the hotel restaurant “Zlatá Praha” (Gold Prague). It offers comfortable accommodation, peculiar conference rooms and ideal location in walking distance from a lot of important Old Prague historical monuments as well as centres of modern Prague social life and significant shopping areas with luxurious boutiques on prestigious addresses in close proximity to the hotel on Pařížská Street.  

Old Town Square with Old Town Hall, famous Prague Astronomical Clock and Týn Cathedral are located at the nearest surroundings of the hotel, Prague Jewish Town with Old New Synagogue, one of the oldest in Europe, is nearby too. A lot of other historical monuments could be named. Indeed a rich offer of restaurants and other services for visitors of the centre of Prague are available. In walking distance there are also Wenceslas Square, often considered to be a centre of Prague, or Republic Square with precious Municipal House, built in Art Noveau style, and gothic Powder Gate – the start point of the King´s Route, the traditional coronation route of Czech Kings, going through the Old Town Square and over the Charles Bridge as far as to the Prague Castle.
