The ZOO is Prospering
6. January 2012
Record was broken
It sounds incredible but there is a new visitor’s record at the ZOO. During last year the ZOO welcomed 1,369 million visitors, thereby exceeding the maximum visitors reached in 2009. One of the reasons for this is, apart from other favourable aspects, the ZOO’s great breeding results. Last year brought 1,300 babies, some of the biggest successes were the asexual reproduction of komodo dragons or the birth of gorilla male Tana. Also born were offspring of the famous Gaston in the form of South African seal called Bert and then there were the Sumatran tigers. All these additions have made up for loss of the big attraction Moja who now lives in Spain.
New things are to be expected
In the ZOO is continuing development of new elephant and hippo areas and an antelope pavilion which will open next year. Renovation of the vine house Sklenářka has also started as well as landscaping of rocky area which will enable the reopening of the path Zakázanka.
