Zoo Full of Baby Animals

Spring full of baby animals – this is what Prague Zoo is like. It has been blessed with many babies, two little giraffes, exotic birds…

“Except for their golden colour, they are the spitting image of their parents. It is true that their snouts are visibly short but they do have a bristle collar and they have the urge to explore everything. They can be found in the upper part of the zoo,“ said the spokesperson for the zoo Martin Smrček.

In the natural rocky enclosure in the lower part of the zoo, visitors can watch eight little barbary sheep having fun. They were born to their mothers right on the platforms of the rocky slope. “Little barbary sheep are very skilful and from the very beginning they feel at home on the rocks. Just like other ungulate animals, as soon as they get dry after their birth, they follow their mammy. Only when the mother sees that a baby is a bit weaker, it stays with it a few days on the spot,” says Věra Makovská, the chief-keeper of the barbary sheep. A healthy offspring never gets hurt. Little collared peccary and barbary sheep are attractive mainly for children. When they grow up, they travel to other zoological gardens all over Europe or to private breeders.
